If you want to make good money on the internet you should study copywriting. Here’s why: Words are the number one commodity on the internet. Every website needs them. The right words can make a prince out of a pauper. Overnight — with the right words — you can go from broke to making $5,000 to $10,000 a month cash flow.
Studying copywriting will give you the right words. A recent affiliate promotion I wrote consisted of two emails. I spent a total of 90 minutes writing and sending those emails. So far, as of today’s date, the promotion has brought in over $660.00 in commissions. I know it’s not much. In fact, it’s a pittance compared to the money you can make promoting higher-priced products. The product I promoted was only $14.95. The commission was just $5.95. The point is, with just two emails and 90 minutes work sitting in my home office I made $660.00. I didn’t create the product. I don’t do customer service for the product. I just had to write and send two emails.
$660.00 for 90 minutes effort equals $440.00 per hour. Do you make $440.00 per hour at your day job?
Now there are a few guidelines you’re going to want to pay close attention to when you’re doing this. One, you’ll notice I extended each of the base openings (”Today, I have some amazing news to share with you…”) to include a benefit. You want to do this to capture your reader’s attention and to make sure they know something’s in it for them. Otherwise, you’re just being vague and hypey with no substance. That’s a HUGE turn-off, and no one’s going to pay attention to what you’re saying, if you do this.
Two, you want to say something that’s got energy and power. If you’re trying to get someone’s attention, nothing beats enthusiasm. And three, another trick you may want to try is to add what I call a “bonding factor” in your opening. So for example, “Today, I have some amazing news to share with you about lowering your blood pressure,” can often be enhanced by saying something like, “If you are a woman over age 65, I have some amazing news to share with you about lowering your blood pressure.”
When it comes to copywriting, speak to your prospect’s emotions, not to their wallets. Because whether you know it or not, speaking to their heart… really is… the fastest route… to making a sale, anyway.
